Influence of artificial aging on the shear bond strength of zirconia-composite interfaces after pretreatment with new 10-MDP adhesive systems
Authors
Abstract:
Introduction: This in-vitro study investigates the bond strength of different zirconia composites with three different modern adhesive systems after artificial aging using thermocycling and water storage. Methods: A total of 90 specimens of zirconia (InCoris, Sirona, Germany, Bernsheim) were ground using a 165 µm grit rotating diamond disc. Thirty specimens were additionally treated with either Futurabond U “FBU” (VOCO GmbH), or Futurabond M+ “FBM” (VOCO GmbH) or Futurabond M+ in combination with the DCA activator “FBMD” (VOCO GmbH). One of the three different types of composites – BifixSE “BS”, BifixQM “BQ” or GrandioSO “G” (VOCO GmbH) – was bonded to the ten specimens of each group. All of the specimens underwent artificial aging using thermocycling between 5°C and 55°C for 5000 cycles followed by water storage for 100 days. Shear bond strength (SBS) was determined in a universal testing machine. The type of failure was evaluated using fluorescence microscopy. The data were compared to existing data without artificial aging. Statistical analysis was performed with ANOVA and the Tukey test. Results: FBM and FBMD had higher SBS than FBU in combination with all tested composites, except BifixSE. In nearly all groups, artificial aging had no effect, with the exception of the combination of FBMD with BifixSE, in which there was a significant decrease in SBS after the aging process (p

Influence of 10-MDP Adhesive System on Shear Bond Strength of Zirconia-Composite Interfaces
Introduction: This in-vitro study investigated the initial 24h bond strength between different composites and zirconia after application of four different adhesive systems. Methods: A total of 120 specimens of zirconia (InCoris, Sirona, Germany, Bernsheim) were ground with a 165 µm grit rotating diamond disc. Thirty specimens were each additionally treated with Cimara Zircon “CZ” (VOCO GmbH, ...

full textEffect of Chlorhexidine on Micro-Shear Bond Strength of Two Adhesive Systems After Aging
Background and Aim: Recurrent caries and low bond strength are the main causes of composite restorations failure. This study sought to assess the effect of chlorhexidine (CHX) on micro-shear bond strength (MSBS) to dentin of a fourth generation adhesive system and a universal bonding agent after aging. Materials and Methods: This in vitro study used 32 extracted third molars and 3-5mm thick de...

So far, there is no report regarding the micro-Raman vibrational fingerprint of the bonds between 10-methacryloyloxy-decyl dihydrogen phosphate (10-MDP) and zirconia ceramics. Thus, the aim of this study was to identify the Raman vibrational peaks related to the bonds of 10-MDP with zirconia, as well as the influence on microshear bond strength. Micro-Raman spectroscopy was employed to assess t...

OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effect of cyclic loading on the bond strength of resin composite to zirconia framework material. METHODS Bar shaped zirconia/composite specimens (2 mm x 2 mm x 25 mm) were prepared using three different resin cements and placed in a four-point bending test setup. The flexure strength (F(s)) was calculated by placing the bars (n=10) fixed between the four supports (a...
